The theme of my assignment are locations. The locations that I am most interested in are mainly city locations and rural locations. Obviously both locations are very different but they both share the same beauty.

First I planned to do a photo shoot of rural landscapes and then I drew and painted 6 samples of some of the images that I have took in different styles. I have also edited some of the images that I have took on Photoshop to see what different styles I could use on my images.

I am thinking of doing a mixture of fine art and photography because I quite enjoy doing both such as photography I can explore different locations and be more adventurous within the project and with fine art I can experiment with different styles of painting techniques such as different brush strokes and different mediums in the project. Maybe I can use more of a textiles approach in this project to add textures into my work and mix different medias together.

For my artist research I have been looking on Pinterest at some paintings of rural images. The artists that I have been looking at are not very known artists such as Peter Wileman who uses a very abstract style with big smudgy brush strokes that splatter across the page and I have also been looking at Joan Kathleen Harding Eardley’s work who is similar to Peter Wileman’s work with their abstract style with the paint splattered across the page like a Jackson Pollock piece and the strong brush strokes and strong textures such as scratches in her work. I have also been looking at Goeffrey  Johnson’s work who captures the mood and atmosphere urban locations within his paintings and like the other artists I have looked at, he uses strong brush strokes that fill the page. I have also been looking at some photographers such as Ansel Adams with his black and white photography including silhouettes and reflections and different times of the day and different weather such as mist and snow. I have also looked at other photographers such as Keld helmer Peterson with his bold silhouettes and patterns of scaffolding and pylons plus photography by Alvin Langdon with his early 1900s industrial imagery in London with that bold gritty style with strong silhouettes.

My target audience that I am aiming to produce my work for are art collectors, gallery’s and clients because I think that’s the main audience that my work will attract. I am also producing work for people who live around the north west of England and people with a strong interests within these parts of the world especially the Greater Manchester area as I am planning on capturing different locations around the Greater Manchester area by visiting rural and urban locations.

I will ensure that I meet the assignment deadlines by using my study time wisely, write a check list down and asking for help if needed by tutors and peers.

For a final outcome I am thinking of doing a few mixed media pieces maybe on a large scale of rural and urban landscapes capturing the mood and atmosphere of the landscape and using strong brush strokes on my pieces and adding texture to give my work some character and more of an abstract approach.

I will review my work by asking for opinons from tutors and peers and if theres anything that needs improving I will go back to it try and improve it to the best quality standard possible.
